Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt like something was "off"? Or perhaps you've noticed that after spending time with certain people or in particular places, you feel drained, heavy, or just not quite yourself? If so, you're not alone – and you're not imagining things. Just as we accumulate physical dirt and clutter in our daily lives, we can also pick up spiritual and energetic residue that weighs us down.
This is where the beautiful practice of spiritual cleansing comes in. Think of it as a refreshing shower for your soul and body energies – a way to wash away the energetic dust and debris that naturally accumulates as we move through life.
What Exactly Is Spiritual Cleansing?
Spiritual cleansing is the practice of clearing away negative or stagnant energy from yourself, your space, or your belongings. It's both about removing something "bad" or "evil" and like opening the windows to let fresh air circulate through a stuffy room. It is part of the greater Spiritual Healing process.
Throughout our daily interactions, we exchange energy with people, places, and situations. Sometimes this energy feels light and uplifting, but other times it can feel heavy, sticky, or draining. Spiritual cleansing helps us release what no longer serves us and create space for more positive, vibrant energy to flow.
The wonderful thing about spiritual cleansing is that it doesn't require any specific religious beliefs. Whether you're deeply spiritual, casually curious, or somewhere in between, these practices can be adapted to fit your personal worldview and comfort level.

Why Do We Need Spiritual Cleansing?
Modern life bombards us with so many different energies. We're constantly connected to social media, news, work stress, and the emotions of those around us. It's like walking through a crowded marketplace where everyone's calling out at once – eventually, all that lower energy starts to stick to us.
You might benefit from spiritual cleansing if you've been feeling:
Unusually tired or drained without physical cause
Emotionally heavy or carrying feelings that don't seem to be your own
Stuck in negative thought patterns
Like your home or workspace feels stagnant or uncomfortable
Difficulty sleeping or having vivid, unsettling dreams
A general sense that something just feels "off"
Remember, these feelings are rather normal in the world we live in. They're simply signals that it might be time for some energetic spring cleaning.
Spiritual cleansing is part of the spiritual healing process — a very necessary step before practicing any spiritual or energy procedures with any effectiveness. When stepping onto our spiritual journey, cleansing and healing are crucial methods for staying on the right path of our souls.
Simple Ways to Cleanse Yourself
Let's start with personal cleansing – clearing your own energy field i.e. energy cleansing. The beauty of these practices lies in their simplicity and accessibility.
There are two main ways of spiritual cleansing:
Internal cleansing, which deals with the Causes of lower energies in us or attached to us, so they cant re-attach to us again.
External cleansing, which deals with cleansing the negative energies—that is, the Effects in us without dealing with the causes.
Ideally, one should use practices from both kinds in order to deal with both the causes and the effects.
1.      Internal cleansing methods
I give you below several internal cleansing methods that I personally tested:
Breathwork. Sometimes the most powerful cleansing happens through something as simple as conscious breathing. Try this gentle practice: sit comfortably and take deep breaths, imagining that with each inhale, you're drawing in fresh, clean energy, and with each exhale, you're releasing anything that feels heavy or stagnant. Breath 9 times in a session, takes only a few minutes.
Meditation doesn't have to be complicated – even five minutes of quiet reflection can help reset your energy. Visualize yourself surrounded by bright, protective light, or simply focus on the sensation of your breath moving in and out of your body.
Setting Intentions. Start your day by setting a clear intention about how you want to feel and what kind of energy you want to attract. This might be as simple as saying, "Today I choose to maintain my positive energy and let go of anything that doesn't serve me."
Mindful Interactions. Pay attention to how different people, places, and activities affect your energy. This isn't about judging others, but about being aware of your own energetic boundaries and taking steps to protect your well-being.
Spiritual Gratitude Shower procedure. I give you below a quick, effective spiritual and energy cleansing procedure I use regularly that I call the Spiritual Gratitude Shower procedure:
Once in the shower, you just let the water rinse your body for 2-3 minutes. Try not thinking about anything; just breath calmly and feel happy for the water that flows over your skin.
While the water flows over your body, start sending Gratitude from your heart to: 1) your soul, 2) to God, 3) Mother Earth who gave you your body, 4) Father Sun who gives us light, 5) all souls in your life, like family and friends (name them one by one if you can, both good and bad), 6) the nature around you, 7) your spiritual guides, 8) all higher souls where you live. If you finish before ending the shower, just add more souls. Basically, you are being grateful to each and everyone.
Meanwhile, you do NOT ASK anything from any soul/entity you are grateful to, like asking for health, good luck, money, etc. For the first 2-3 showers, I advise to speak out loud: "I send Gratitude to Mother Earth, to Father Sun, to my husband/wife, to my children, to my mother, to all souls around me that I know, etc." Afterwards, you can speak only in your mind, but at the beginning you need to hear yourself saying these.
A big benefit: this procedure doesn't require any additional time—one takes a shower anyway over the course of a day. By regularly sending gratitude, you will reconnect with the universe around you and automatically release many lower energies that have attached to you over the day.
When looking into many people's energies, I noticed a long time ago that this humanity is in a state of huge lack of gratitude toward the universe! This is one of the main causes of the lower vibration we live in, which translates into hate and indifference to one another and thus Separation. The inner feeling of Separation attracts all these negative energies and even entities to us, and makes them stick over time.
It will also assist you with becoming more Humble.
The trick to making it effective is to send gratitude from your heart rather than from just your mind.

2.      External cleansing methods
I give you below several external cleansing methods that I personally tested over time:
Movement and Exercise
Physical movement naturally helps shift energy. Dancing, walking in nature, yoga, or even gentle stretching can help shake loose stuck energy and get things flowing again. Pay attention to how different types of movement affect your mood and energy levels.
Crystal and Stone Work
If you're drawn to crystals, certain stones are traditionally used for cleansing and protection. Black tourmaline, selenite, and clear quartz are popular choices. You might carry a small stone in your pocket, place one on your nightstand, or simply hold one while setting an intention to release what no longer serves you.

Cleansing Your Space
Our physical environment significantly impacts our energy and mood. Creating a clean, harmonious space supports our overall well-being and makes it easier to maintain positive energy.
Sound Cleansing
Sound is another powerful cleansing tool. Ringing bells, playing singing bowls, clapping your hands, or even playing uplifting music can help shift the energy in a space. The vibrations help break up stagnant energy and create a fresh energetic atmosphere.
Physical Cleaning with Intention
Never underestimate the power of good old-fashioned cleaning! When you clean your space with the conscious intention of clearing away negative energy along with physical dirt, you're performing a powerful form of spiritual cleansing. Open windows to let fresh air circulate, and as you clean, visualize sweeping away any heaviness or negativity.
Salt and Crystals
Placing small bowls of sea salt in the corners of rooms is a traditional way to absorb negative energy. Some people also like to place protective crystals near doorways or in areas where they spend a lot of time.
Visualization Techniques
One simple protection practice is to visualize yourself surrounded by a bubble or shield of white, golden, or whatever color feels protective to you. Imagine this barrier allowing positive energy in while keeping negative influences out.

Making It a Regular Practice
The most effective spiritual cleansing happens when it becomes a regular practice, rather than something you only do in crisis moments. Think of it like brushing your teeth – a simple daily practice that prevents bigger problems.
You might choose to do a quick personal cleansing each evening as you shower, or spend a few minutes each weekend refreshing the energy in your home. Find a rhythm that feels sustainable and enjoyable rather than burdensome.
Trust Your Intuition
Perhaps the most important aspect of spiritual cleansing is learning to trust your own intuition about what works for you. While some of these practices have been used across cultures for generations, the most effective approach is the one that resonates with your personal beliefs and feels authentic to you.
Some people are drawn to elaborate rituals with specific tools and procedures, while others prefer simple practices like conscious breathing or intention-setting. There's no right or wrong way – only what feels genuine and helpful for you.
Pay attention to how you feel before, during, and after different cleansing practices. Your body and intuition will tell you what's working and what might need adjustment.
Embracing the Journey
Spiritual cleansing is ultimately about creating more space for joy, peace, and positive energy in your life. It's a gentle, ongoing practice of tending to your energetic well-being with the same care you'd give to your physical health.
Remember that this is a journey, not a destination! Some days you'll feel light and clear, while others might feel heavier. This is completely normal and part of being human. The goal isn't to maintain perfect energy at all times, but rather to have tools and practices that help you return to balance when you need them.
As you explore these practices, be patient and kind with yourself. Trust that you have everything you need within you to maintain your energetic well-being, and that these tools are simply ways to support and enhance your natural ability to create positive energy in your life.
