I Sat Down for a 30-Minute Meditation, and Four Hours Disappeared. Here’s What That Taught Me About Time

I want to tell you about something that changed how I understand time. I sat down to meditate one evening, expecting the session to last about 20 to 30 minutes. What happened instead was that I entered an unusually deep state, felt myself leave my body, and ascended into what I can only describe as higher dimensions of vibration. I encountered several disembodied higher souls, experienced vivid states of consciousness, and had memories flood back — some joyful, others painful — each one feeling like I was living it again, not just recalling it.


When I came back and opened my eyes, four hours had passed. By the clock, four hours. By my experience, it could have been 20 minutes. There was no sense of time having elapsed in the way we normally experience it. It felt like time had simply stopped while my consciousness was elsewhere.


This wasn’t imagination. It wasn’t a trance. And it wasn’t the only experience like this I’ve had. But it was one of the most dramatic, and it forced me to look seriously at a question that most people treat as abstract philosophy: what is time, really? And what does it mean that consciousness can apparently step outside of it?

Two Spaces, Two Rules: Why Time Works Differently for Body and Soul

From my spiritual research and experiences like the one above, I’ve come to understand that we exist in two spaces simultaneously, and each one operates under different rules regarding time.


Physical space (3D). This is the material world of 3D vibration (D-dimension of vibration) where our bodies live. In this space, time is real and linear. Your body ages. Events happen in sequence. Entropy is constant — things break down over time. As long as a soul has a body, it’s caught in the web of time because the body is subject to physical laws. You can’t ignore time here, your body won’t let you.


Spiritual space (beyond 3D). This is where soul/consciousness goes when it detaches from the body — during deep meditation, during sleep, and after death. In spiritual space, there is no time as we know it. It’s all about consciousness — states of awareness that don’t unfold in a sequence but exist as direct experience. This is why my 4-hour meditation felt like 20 minutes: my consciousness was operating in spiritual space where the time constraints of my body didn’t apply.


This gives a very specific answer to the common spiritual claim that “time is an illusion.” It’s partly true and partly misleading. From the perspective of a disembodied soul in spiritual space, time doesn’t exist. But from the perspective of an embodied soul — which is what you are right now — time is very real and ignoring it is a mistake. You’re operating in both spaces at once, which means both rules apply. The body lives in time. The soul lives beyond it. Understanding this dual reality is important for making sense of experiences that don’t fit the purely physical framework.


How Higher-Dimensional Beings Relate to Time

One of the most interesting findings from my research is how beings in higher dimensions — from 5D vibration and above — relate to time in our 3D world.

These higher souls, including spiritual guides, angels, and other entities that offer guidance to embodied souls, live in a space where time doesn’t operate the way it does for us. From their perspective, our 3D time flows very quickly. To interact with us — to offer guidance at the right moment, to support us through specific life lessons — they’ve mastered the ability to adjust their awareness to our time flow. I learned that they can, in effect, adjust down to our pace when they need to communicate with us and return to their timeless state when they don’t.


This ability to control time flow isn’t magic — it’s a function of vibrational level. The higher the vibration, the more fluid the relationship with time becomes. At our 3D level (the average body vibration is about 3.4 on the chakra scale or 3D), we’re tightly bound to linear time. As vibration rises through spiritual growth and chakra opening, the grip of linear time loosens. Experiences like my 4-hour meditation become possible because the consciousness is briefly operating at a higher vibrational level where time rules are different.


How Your Vibration Affects Your Experience of Time

You’ve probably noticed this in everyday life without connecting it to vibration. When you’re in a state of joy, deep focus, or creative flow, time seems to accelerate — hours pass like minutes. When you’re bored, anxious, or stuck in routine, time drags painfully. This isn’t just psychology. From the vibrational perspective, these are moments when your consciousness is temporarily operating at different frequencies.


Joy, creativity, and deep presence correspond to higher vibrational states on the emotional vibration chart. In these states, your consciousness is closer to the timeless quality of spiritual space, so time feels compressed. Boredom, fear, and stagnation correspond to lower vibrational states where consciousness is more tightly bound to the material plane and its linear clock.


This has a practical implication for spiritual growth: the more you raise your body and soul vibration through releasing limiting beliefs, meditation, and conscious inner work, the more your experience of time shifts. Meditation sessions deepen. States of presence become more accessible. And occasionally, as in my experience, you get a glimpse of what consciousness feels like when it’s not bound by the clock at all.


What This Means for Your Practice

Understanding the dual nature of time has practical implications for how you approach spiritual work:


Don’t dismiss time while you have a body. Some spiritual teachings encourage treating time as an illusion to be transcended. But your body lives in time, and ignoring that fact leads to impractical spirituality — missing deadlines, neglecting responsibilities, and treating everyday life as unimportant. The goal isn’t to escape time but to learn to operate in both spaces: grounded in the present moment of physical time while staying connected to the timeless awareness of your soul.


Use meditation to access the timeless space. Deep meditation is the most reliable way for an embodied soul to temporarily loosen the grip of linear time. Even if you don’t have a 4-hour experience like mine, regular practice trains your consciousness to shift between the time-bound and timeless modes. Over time, this makes you more present, more intuitive, and more connected to the guidance your soul is trying to deliver.
